Our Story
Hello fellow self care lovers!
My name is Montana, and I am the creator and co-owner of West Coast Candle Co. My fellow co-owner is my amazing mother Carol, and we live on Beautiful Vancouver Island in BC, Canada. We love the outdoors and enjoy horseback riding, kayaking, camping, and exploring our amazing home.
We started West Coast Candle Co. all because of a dream.
I have always dreamed of becoming a business owner. I also dreamed of finding a way to help people, especially the people who have had the same experiences as me. I was diagnosed with Lyme Disease in 2018 but had been suffering with symptoms for 10 years prior to that. Pain and feeling unwell was my everyday life. Spending the time to take care of myself was, and still is a massive part of my recovery. When I was first diagnosed, my doctor had me switch to all natural products since all of the products I was using on a daily basis were full of toxic junk!! I learned that there are very few regulations and laws in Canada regarding what can and cannot be put into our everyday products. How crazy is that?! Synthetic and toxic ingredients would hinder my healing, meaning treatment would all be for nothing. So I knew I had to make the switch since ultimately my life depended on it.
Bathing with mineral salts and detoxifying ingredients have been a major part of my post treatment routine. Without them, my body wouldn’t be able to release the bacteria and toxins that cause the symptoms of Lyme. Since detoxing is the purpose, how can the body detox all of the junk, when even MORE junk was being added?! It just didn’t make sense to me. I always loved burning a candle while having a bath as well, but I was faced with the same problem. The candles I was using were full of chemicals and emitted carcinogens.
Nowadays, natural products are much more readily available, but can be extremely expensive - which in the long-term is hard to maintain. I then had a thought - maybe I could create my own collection of products that were made with natural, sustainable, and high quality ingredients - but were affordable for the people who are like me. Someone who wishes, but doesn’t have all the money in the world!
So what did I do?! I started researching how to start and make my own line of self care products. It’s taken almost 2 years to get to this point, but now West Coast Candle Co is finally here!
I am proud to say that all of our products are made with natural, high quality ingredients, passion, commitment and of course - lots and lots of love. Without you, we wouldn’t be able to make all of this possible. So we want to thank you for your support, it means the world to us!
